Road closures in Ascension Parish

Heavy rain caused numerous road closures in Ascension Parish.
 
As of 9 a.m. Tuesday, the following roads/intersections were closed because of standing water:

-Pelican Crossing, Darrow
-Beau Douglas at Pelican Point, Darrow
-LA 308, Donaldsonville
-Evangeline Ave., Donaldsonville
-Tiggy Duplessis at LA 621, Duplessis
-Louis White at McDaniels, Dutchtown
-South Hodgeson at Clouatre, Gonzales
-Bayou Narcisse between Roddy and LA 431, Gonzales
-Silver Oak Drive, Gonzales
-LA 930 at Henry, Prairieville
-Palmetto Lane (Country Ridge Subdivision), Prairieville
-Roy Rogers at James, Prairieville
-Ruby at Brittany, Sorrento
-Melancon, Sorrento
-Split Log Road, St. Amant
-New Sharper Road off LA 73
-New Orleans Drive (River Ridge Subdivision off LA 22)

Crews are working to mitigate flooding on roadways as well as to try to prepare for further rainfall.

The three major river stages in the parish remained below flood stage Tuesday morning:

-Bayou Manchac at Amite: 5 feet at 7 a.m., flood stage is 9 feet
-Bayou Manchac at Little Prairie: 6.28 feet at 6:45 a.m., flood stage is 10 feet
-Amite River at Port Vincent: 3.68 feet at 6:15 a.m., flood stage is 8 feet

Sand for sand bags are available at DPW headquarters on Churchpoint Road in Gonzales and at the DPW office in Donaldsonville. The parish's pumping stations in Sorrento and at McElroy are both running at full capacity.
