BATON ROUGE - If you're headed downtown this evening for WBRZ's Fireworks on the Mississippi and other Fourth of July festivities, Baton Rouge Police has a heads-up regarding road closures and parking before and after the event.
Police began closing off River Road and Government Street between St. Louis Street and North Blvd. Friday morning. That stretch of road will remain closed until after the fireworks show, when BRPD will start clearing the area.
Curb parking will be available where normally permitted without parking meter fees due to the holiday. Additionally, all paid lots will be open.
On Thursday, BRPD advised motorists who are coming out to the downtown area for the event to arrive early and to plan on clearing out of the area after the event concludes.
Check back with WBRZ.com throughout the day to stay updated on traffic and parking conditions as celebrations kick off.
