BATON ROUGE - A section of River Road by LSU has reopened after water seeping in from the levee forced it to close.
The section of road south of Brightside Drive near the BREC Farr Park Equestrian Center had been closed since mid-May.
Now the high-water period is over and DOTD said River Road can be accessed normally.
Steve Wilson from the Pontchartrain Levee Board said the levee along River Road by LSU also reopened Tuesday for bikers and pedestrians.
This is the section of levee south of the Mississippi River Bridge that is controlled by the Pontchartrain Levee District.
Wilson said the levee is now open from Baton Rouge down to St. Charles Parish.
However, the River Rd. opening is only temporary because it will be closed again when work on the levee near Duncan Pointe starts.
Wilson said he expects the road to be open for about 60 days and then close again in late August when the contract bid is out and work begins.
The project is expected to finish in March 2012.
