Another explosion has occurred at an oil rig in the Gulf of Mexico, this one about 80 miles south of Vermillion Bay along the central Louisiana coast.

The rig is Vermillion oil rig 380 and is owned by Mariner Energy. It had 13 workers aboard at the time, all are accounted for and one is injured.  All had jumped overboard to avoid the explosion.

It is not certain if there is an oil leak at this time, but the Associated Press is reporting that the platform was not producing oil and gas.

The Coast Guard says the explosion was reported by a commercial helicopter company around 9:30 a.m., and that seven helicopters, two airplanes and four boats are en route to the site.
