BATON ROUGE - Rescue units responded to reports that a car drove off a frontage road between the Mall of Louisiana and I-10 East and was submerged in water.
East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office spokesperson Casey Hicks said a witness called firefighters about the wreck around 1:35 p.m. They said the car was coming off I-10 onto Frontage Road, when it left the roadway and went under the bridge into the water.
St. George firefighters and sheriff's deputies are on the scene now with a boat, trying to find the vehicle.
Witnesses said they did not see the car's occupant get out of the vehicle or canal.
News 2 crews are at the scene and will have more details as they become available.
