Republican Party of Louisiana plans statewide tour
BATON ROUGE - The Republican Party of Louisiana is hitting the road next month, planning a statewide tour as part of efforts to defeat Democratic U.S. Sen. Mary Landrieu next year.
The party calls the 100-stop tour "Red to the Roots." Events will begin Aug. 16 in Winnsboro and end in November.
Roger Villere, chairman of the state GOP, said in a statement Thursday that the tour is designed to empower party activists and provide training to help Republican efforts to oust Landrieu.
In her third term, Landrieu is considered vulnerable because she is a Democrat in a state that tends to vote Republican in national elections.
Two Republicans are running for the Senate seat so far: U.S. Rep. Bill Cassidy of Baton Rouge and Rob Maness, a tea party supporter from Madisonville.
