Reports: Cassidy's teenage daughter is pregnant
BATON ROUGE- Congressman Bill Cassidy's unmarried, 17-year-old daughter, is pregnant the doctor told media outlets Thursday.
Cassidy, a conservative Republican running for U.S. Senate against Democrat Mary Landrieu, is campaign on a traditional family values platform. He is considered the leading GOP candidate for the seat. CNN.com reported Landrieu is one of the most vulnerable Democrats running for re-election in a midterm race.
Cassidy said he and his wife, who is also a doctor, learned about the pregnancy earlier this year. Their daughter is expected to have her child sometime this summer.
"We welcome our grandchild as a joyous addition to our family," Cassidy told a newspaper and website in New Orleans, CNN reported. "Our daughter now faces a more challenging future than her peers. She has our unconditional love and support."
Cassidy added that his children are the greatest blessing of he and his wife's lives.
