Report: Stun victim's death accidental
LAFAYETTE - Stress from an altercation with a deputy who used an electric stun device contributed to the death of a Lafayette man in October, but the cause of death was complications from bronchial asthma, according to a pathologists report.
The report released this week lists the death of 28-year-old Javon Rakestrau as accidental.
A lawyer for Rakestrau's family expressed disappointment in the finding and said the family will pursue other legal action.
Authorities last month said Rakestrau died after Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Deputy Chris Guidry used a stun gun while trying to arrest him in connection with a suspected drug sale.
