Report: Sorrento councilman target of federal raid
SORRENTO - Men wearing FBI jackets descended on the home of councilman Randy Anny Tuesday morning and left with a high-dollar fishing boat, according to TheCreole.com.
The FBI would not confirm that they are investigating the councilman, but images captured by the Ascension-based website show agents milling around the councilman's home.
Anny came under scrutiny after signing a check for work in the town that was never completed. Anny signed the check while he was acting mayor, during a period of time when the elected mayor, Wilson Longanecker, Jr., was absent.
Anny told TheCreole.com that the money for the work was appropriated during a special meeting that was not open to the public.
The website reports that Anny showed up to the home during the raid, when agents handed him documents, before he drove away.
Anny would not return calls for comment. News 2 reached out to the town council, but the town's leadership declined comment.
