BATON ROUGE - Conway Inc.'s latest edition of the publication's "World's Most Competitive Cities" report places Baton Rouge in second position, behind Houston, for economic development in the chemical and plastics industry.

The report measures cities' overall economic competitiveness in a range of industries from tech to transportation on a global scale. Conway collaborates with Moody's Analytics, Oxford Economics and Tractus Asia to turn out the guide each year with its target audience being investors looking for an overview of corporate expansion in different economies.

Baton Rouge appears on page 40 of the 162-page report as the city is ranked ahead of the Chicago area, Cincinnati and the Dallas/Fort Worth region. The copy accompanying the ranking features glowing comments from Christine Alford, general manager of IBM's North American service centers, that praise Baton Rouge's growth in the chemicals and plastics industry. The Capital City also appears in a number of lists of notable corporate facility investments throughout the report.

The guide also points out that, unlike some industries, the chemicals and plastics industry is one of the least likely to move. This means it is probable that chemical and plastics production will remain centered in the areas it has long called home including Texas, Louisiana and Germany's so-called "Chemical Triangle."
