MANDEVILLE - Police are continuing their search for a man who they believe held a woman hostage and raped her over a period of several hours over the weekend.

According to a report from WWL-TV, a news partner of WBRZ, police say the suspect snuck into the woman's Mandeville home through an open window before sexually assaulting her. Police added that the incident occurred early Saturday morning in the 2000 block of Monroe Street.

The victim told police she'd never seen the assailant before, but he may have stalked her on social media. Police said the victim told them the assailant seemed to be familiar with her and referenced her social media posts.

The suspect took the woman's ID with him and made threats toward her before leaving.

The Mandeville Police Department released photos of the suspect after he was spotted at the Cracker Barrel store in the 1900 block of Florida Street. He is a white male, approximately 5'7" and has an oval-shaped tattoo on the exterior of his calf.

Police are asking Mandeville residents to be on alert for the suspect, who they believe is still in the area.
