Report: Mysterious gunfire kills 19-year-old Tuesday
HAMMMOND - A 19-year-old from Ponchatoula was killed after being hit by an apparent stray bullet, ActionNews17.com posted on its website Tuesday.
The local news site reported the victim as Gerrell Lee. Lee was riding in a car when the driver said he heard a popping sound and noticed Lee had been shot. The shooting was near the corner of Rufus Bankston and Wardline Road, west of the I-55 exit to Wardline.
The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office has not issued a region-wide news release on the matter as of this post.
The shooting is the second in a 12-hour span in the area. The website reported someone had checked themselves into the hospital after being shot in the leg earlier.
