Report: Mathieu told NFL he'd failed 10+ drug tests
PHOENIX, Ariz. - According to reports, former LSU star Tyrann Mathieu told an assistant NFL coach that he'd failed more than ten drug tests at LSU before he was kicked off the team.
USA Today reported Mathieu told the unnamed coach he "stopped counting" once he got to ten failed tests.
The former LSU cornerback is in Arizona showing his skills to the Cardinals. He's visiting ten total NFL teams to boost his draft prospects after his college career ended with a dismissal at LSU for violating team rules.
Mathieu is projected to be a possible third-round pick. Teams will have to weigh his on-the-field instincts, which earned him the nickname "Honey Badger" and led to a Heisman nomination, versus the possibility he could relapse into drug use under the stress of playing in the NFL.
Mathieu spent time in a drug rehab facility after his dismissal from the team. Police arrested him along with three other former LSU players last year on drug charges after they said they found marijuana packaged for sale in his off-campus apartment.
