Report: LSU's Chavis hired at Texas A&M
BATON ROUGE - Texas A&M has hired LSU's John Chavis to be the Aggies' next defensive coordinator, according to a report from Yahoo Sports.
The site says Chavis will replace Mark Snyder, who was fired earlier this month. The Aggie defense ranked 103rd in the nation this season.
Chavis has been with LSU for six years and helped push the Tiger defense up among the nation's best. This year LSU ranked No. 6 in scoring defense and 11th in the country in total defense, and they've ranked in the top 20 in many defense categories since 2009 when Chavis joined the team. He also won the Broyles Award in 2011, which honors the nation's top assistant college football coach.
Chavis reportedly did not fly home with LSU after the Tigers lost to Notre Dame 31-28 in the Music City Bowl.
