LAKE CHARLES - A preliminary report issued by the National Transportation and Safety Board finds the two tail rotors were missing from a helicopter that crashed near the Calcasieu/Cameron Parish line in March.

The American Press reports three people were killed when the Era helicopter went down while on a maintenance flight March 15 in a field 5 miles southeast of Lake Charles Regional Airport.

Killed in the crash were the pilot, a 69-year-old California man, William R. Croucher, and two mechanics, 55-year-old Michael Lee Tyree of Iowa and 41-year-old Timothy Lloyd Goehring of Sulphur.

The report said the 1990 two-engine, 14-seat Sikorsky S-76A was on a post-maintenance check flight.

The aircraft burned once it crashed.
