EAST BATON ROUGE PARISH- News 2 has obtained a list detailing nearly 60 bridges that need to be replaced across the Parish.
Parish workers maintain 300 bridges across the city. The ones that need to be replaced dot the parish from the northern end to the southern end.
"They will have more problems on their hands if something were to happen, so I think it is something that should be taken care of," Sarah Collins said.
Collins uses the Sharp Road bridge near Florida Boulevard. The bridge has a poor rating. According to parish workers, they are trying to secure federal funding to fix many of the dangerous bridges in East Baton Rouge Parish, however, we are competing with the other 63 parishes in the state.
Mayor Kip Holden said the main reason why it is so difficult to fix them is because there is no money.
"We're already 50 years behind on major things that need to be done and the number of people shown by the census exacerbates the problem," Holden said.
Already, four bridges have been closed due to dangerous conditions. Parish workers warn if something isn't done soon, expect to see more bridges close.
