Report: Chavis in Texas with A&M head coach
HOUSTON - Former LSU defensive coordinator John Chavis is in Texas on New Year's Day getting situated with his new position at Texas A&M, according to reports.
A Houston Chronicle reporter snapped pictures of Chavis getting off a plane with Aggies head coach Kevin Sumlin, who confirmed Chavin's hiring. Sumlin said they were already making game plans for next season on the flight to Texas.
"Certainly, we've looked at A&M and the things that are happening here, and there's a great opportunity to win - and win big," Chavis told the Chronicle.
Chavis had been with LSU since 2009, winning the Broyles Award in 2011 for best college football assistant coach and beating the Aggies four times during that period.
Word of Texas A&M hiring Chavis away from LSU leaked out before the Tigers faced Notre Dame in the Music City Bowl. LSU lost that game 31-28.
