NEW ORLEANS - Police say a Baton Rouge man wanted for murder turned himself in early Wednesday morning.

Garrett Ward, 25, was booked on one count of second-degree murder for a violent attack that happened on Jan. 6.

Witnesses say Ward was seen punching and kicking the victim, Arnold Jackson, on St. Charles Avenue before fleeing to the upper level of a parking garage. Police found Ward and he was detained on suspicion of battery.

Ward was reportedly highly intoxicated at the time of his arrest and booked for second-degree battery. He was later released after a court appearance.

Jackson was taken to an area hospital where he died of his injuries on Jan. 18. His death is being ruled a homicide.
