NEWTOWN, Conn. - Law enforcement sources said at least 27 people were killed in a mass shooting at a Connecticut school, including 18 children.

State Police said in a press briefing at noon that the shooter was dead, the scene secure and the public was not in further danger.

The shooting took place at the Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn. Police received the first 911 call at 9:41 a.m., and all schools in the area were locked down.

School staff members are among the dead, including the school's headmistress.
