BATON ROUGE- State Representative Regina Barrow boarded a bus around 9 a.m. at Earl K Long headed to Woman's Hospital.

She ended up on on Siegen Lane and Industriplex Blvd, the closest bus stop to the hospital.

"I cannot imagine a woman, pregnant or not pregnant to get here for a doctors appointment." She says. "Not pedestrian friendly at all. Because it had rained it was very muddy, I almost fell at one point."

She didn't fall, but it took her 45 minutes to get to the hospital on foot. The trip took two hours in all. The hospital says she's not the first to make the trek.

"There are many people that we know that will make the walk for family members," said Aimee Goforthe with Woman's Hospital, "and that's important to women who are in the hospital to have someone come and see them, and the hardship of walking back and forth can be difficult."

When the hospital was located further north on Airline Highway, there was a much closer stop. But according to CATS the hospital's new location is outside of the Baton Rouge city limits, and they won't comment on routes outside those lines.

"I have a solution, I think that the current system should do something like they have downtown. Which is [a] trolly system that can transport people from the Mall of Louisiana to here on a continuous basis," Barrows said.

She says she knows her idea idea isn't cheap, but it's either pay now or pay more later.

"It will cost us worse down the line when you have people that couldn't afford to pay for prenatal care and that will cost way more than $10,000 to $15,000," Barrow said.

A CATS representative said they are working to address the needs of the parish as a transit system.
