BATON ROUGE- Lawmakers criticized Governor Jindal's office for not equally sharing in cuts in its proposed Executive Budget for the upcoming fiscal year.

According to the Legislative Fiscal office, the Executive Department is cutting $244,000 dollars in state funding. Representative Katrina Jackson says the cuts are too little compared to other offices and departments.

"The bottom line is this, if every other department is being asked to consolidate duties to eliminate staff where they can," the Monroe Democrat said. "I think as the leader of the state, he needs to do his part."

In a response to the criticism, the Department of Administration released this statement: "Since 2008 the Governor's office has been committed to reducing expenses both within the Executive Department and throughout the state over all. In the upcoming budget the Executive Department is cutting 15 percent of its overall budget including cuts to staff, travel, and supplies."

Over the next four weeks, the House Appropriations Committee will examine the Governor's proposed budget.
