GEISMAR - The Baton Rouge chapter of the Red Cross deployed volunteers today to help people affected by this morning's explosion at the Williams Olefins chemical plant in Geismar.

Volunteers are providing food, water and emotional support for workers and families with loved ones who were hurt in the explosion early today.

Family members of plant workers can call 1-866-380-2303 to find out about their loved ones. The Ascension Parish Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness has a reunification center for plant workers and their families at the Lamar Dixon Expo Center at 9039 S. St. Landry Ave, Gonzales.

The Red Cross said free counseling and support is available 24 hours a day through their Disaster Distress Helpline at 1-800-985-5990 or by texting "TalkWithUs" to 66746.
