Red Cross opens Gonzales shelter for storm victims
GONZALES- The Red Cross opened a shelter at the Lamar Dixon Expo Center Gym for people who have been displaced by flooding from Wednesday's storms.
The shelter opened at 8:30 Wednesday evening.
"Our volunteers stand ready to provide the residents with food, a warm and dry place to sleep and other essentials they'll need," said Kay W. Wilkins, CEO of the American Red Cross South Louisiana Region.
The Red Cross also is working with local parish officials throughout the region to determine additional needs for sheltering of those impacted by flooding or severe weather, the agency said in a news release.
Volunteers are on standby to open shelters if requested by parish authorities.
