Recovered guns part of art project in New Orleans
NEW ORLEANS - Weapons will become raw materials for artists in a project getting underway in New Orleans.
City officials and civic leaders were set to gather Wednesday at the Jonathan Ferrara Gallery in the city's Warehouse District to announce the project that is being called "Guns in the Hands of Artists."
Wednesday's program includes the display of 186 guns removed from the streets of New Orleans through the city police department's gun buyback program. Organizers say participating artists will select guns from that display to use in their artworks.
