Recall petition filed against Port Allen's mayor
PORT ALLEN- A recall petition has been filed against Port Allen Mayor "Deedy" Slaughter with the Secretary of State's Office.
The petition was filed by Deloris Kibby and Millie Jackson.
John Michael Lockhart, one of the recall organizers, said they are hoping to get a recall election on the Oct. 19 ballot. To do so, he says they will need the signatures of about 1,270 qualified voters.
Slaughter has faced a string of controversies since she took office Jan. 1, including the hiring of her brother-in-law, Ralph Slaughter, for a nonpaid chief of staff position, lawsuits alleging the wrongful termination of the city's chief financial officer, Audrey McCain, and the debate over her $84,960 salary.
