Raw sewage takes over a yard in Port Allen
PORT ALLEN - When the rain came down on 12th Street in Port Allen, raw sewage came up.
Carolyn Simmons said this is the third time in the past year she's found raw sewage at her house.
"It was bubbling up from the toilet and the bathtub but it had big black chunks, it didn't look like something you flush it looked like something from the inside of a pipe," said Simmons.
The Department of Public Works said they are aware of the situation, but there is no easy fix. Director Tery Vincent said the ground has shifted over the years, and now crews are finding pipes that aren't matching up.
"We're working on trying to get a grant which is a $800,000 grant the timeline on that could be over a year," explained Vincent.
For now, Simmons will continue to have trouble when the area has a heavy rain.
