BATON ROUGE - On South Amite Drive north of Florida Boulevard near the parish line, neighbors are dealing with a stinky situation.

The sewer line has two leaks sending raw sewage into the storm drains.

The smell stings the nostrils, and Claretha Kinchen is fed up. She called the Department of Public Works last week about the smell. Kinchen said crews showed up with bleach, deodorizer and instructions.

They told her to sprinkle deodorant pebbles on whatever stinks to mask the smell.

Monday, DPW crews diagnosed the problem by blowing smoke into the sewer to find the leak. From here, the department will fix two leaks that seem to have been caused by cracks in driveways.
