The price tag to fix the Red River levee problems in Rapides Parish is in the $4 million to $5 million
range, and local officials are working toward making the needed improvements happen.

Officials say not fixing the problems would have financial ramifications well beyond that amount, driving up insurance costs for many parish residents and businesses and even endangering the
local economy.

A U.S. Army Corps of Engineers official cited an approximate cost of $4.3 million to fix the north and south levees, which run from Boyce to Mansura.

Alexandria Mayor Jacques Roy says he's working with officials on a plan to solve the issue locally, which could include using some of the city's capital projects money or seeking grant money from the state.
