ALEXANDRIA- Rapides Parish School Board members have unanimously authorized a $250,000 settlement for the family of a 14-year-old boy who drowned last year in the Alexandria Senior High swimming pool.
The body of Cornelius Thomas was found at the bottom of the pool May 1 after a party for the school's Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps program.
Thomas, a middle school student, was attending the party with his older sister, a member of the school's JROTC program. He could not swim.
After months of investigation by Alexandria police, the drowning was ruled accidental.
School Board President Steve Berry told The Town Talk that he could not provide any specifics on the potential settlement because the agreement has not been finalized.
