GULFPORT, Miss. - The National Weather Service says tropical storm force winds could continue past midnight into early Thursday morning in coastal and south Mississippi.

Meteorologists are predicting as much as 11 inches of rain by Monday in parts of Mississippi.

The Gulfport airport had recorded about 6 inches of rain in the 24 hours that ended 3 p.m. The Jourdan River at Kiln had climbed above 10 feet by 4 p.m., far above its flood stage of 6 feet, because of a combination of rain and storm surge.

The Tchoutacabouffa River at D'Iberville had risen above its flood stage of 8 feet and was predicted to crest at 13 feet Thursday afternoon.

The tide gauge at Bay St. Louis rose to nearly 10 feet Wednesday but was falling.
