Quicker emergency response times in West Baton Rouge
PORT ALLEN - In West Baton Rouge, the 911 call center answers calls in fewer than 10 seconds. Thanks to improvements in technology, soon they may be able to answer even faster.
"The most important piece of information we need is location of where the emergency is occuring," Anthony Summers told News 2's Rebecca Buchanan inside the call center Tuesday morning on 2une In.
Recent advances in smart phones are able to give emergency response teams more accurate locations, giving those teams quicker response times.
Cell phones connect to cell towers, which Summers say makes it very important to make sure you know what center you're calling.
"If you call 911 from a cell phone in West Baton Rouge parish your call may go to East Baton Rouge parish," says Summers. "So it's very important to know what parish your cell phone call is going to."
