BATON ROUGE - The LSU baseball team hit some major milestones during their 2015 campaign, but fell short of the ultimate goal of winning a national championship.

Expectations are always high for the 6-time national champions, and the Tigers managed those throughout the year, holding a #1 ranking for 9 out of 12 weeks in the regular season.

Along the way, the Tigers also won their 18th SEC West Title, 16th SEC Championship and reached the CWS for the 17th time.

Looking specifically at the Tigers performance in Omaha, though, it's clear they needed better pitching than what they had to offer.

Former Tiger Ryan Theriot, for one, believes that side of the team will be much impoved in the 2016 season.

"The good news for everybody in Baton Rouge is that the stuff is there," Theriot told WBRZ Friday.

"Jake Godfrey has great stuff out there in my opinion. I look for Jake to use the experience this year, a little failure, to light a fire, so you have jake and you have some guys in the bullpen that can contribute, you've got Alex (Lange) and Jared (Poche') and then the ace in the hole Alan Dunn, so these guys are always going to compete but identifying a third starter and maybe a fourth starter is huge and I think we saw it play out this week."
