Purcell recommended for commissioner's job
BATON ROUGE - Arkansas's top education leader could be Louisiana's next commissioner of higher education.
Dr. Jim Purcell received a favorable recommendation from the Board of Regents Search Committee today, and his hiring will go before the full board Thursday for consideration.
Purcell has been the director of the Arkansas Deptartment of Higher Education since 2008, and was the only finalist publicly interviewed for the position chosen from a field of eight candidates.
If selected, he would be the state's seventh higher education commissioner. The position has been vacant since last July.
