Public gets look at proposed new school district in BR
BATON ROUGE- Taxpayers in Southeast Baton Rouge got a look Tuesday night at a proposal that would create a new school district for that area.
The organization "Local Schools for Local Children" started introducing its plans to split the district two weeks ago. Tonight, they were seeking public opinion for the first time.
Organizers say they want to fashion a new district after Zachary and Central by shrinking the quantity, but growing the quality of schools at the same time. People who attended said they were there to learn how the split would happen, and how they could help move it forward.
State Rep. Bodi White, (R) Central, is planning to introduce legislation next month to create the district on behalf of the group.
