ASCENSION - Some homeowners in Prairieville and Dutchtown can expect to pay higher property taxes since home values have increased since 2008.
The Ascension Parish Assessors Office valued 3,400 homes this year, which is down from 2008. Property values went up by 2 percent, compared to 8 percent the last time homes were reassessed state-wide.
The total tax roll for 2012 increase by 8 percent, only two came from property reassessment.
All property values were compared to sales data during the period of July 1, 2010 to June 30, 2011. It showed a more than $5 million increase in parish revenue, most of which came from commercial, business and industry taxes.
Since 2003, total parish taxes have jumped from $42 million to nearly $100 million.
