Program reunites kids and inmate mothers
BATON ROUGE- Today, the sheriff's office reunited female inmates and their children at the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison in an effort to strenghten family bonds.
The "One Day with Kids" event started as a way for inmates who are also mothers to develop a more positive relationship with their families once released from prison.
Lisa Brumfield, an inmate who got to see her four children today, said she was selected to go into the second chance program because of her good behavior.
"I'm very thankful. It actually inspires the other ladies who may didn't get a chance or may not be going home soon to better themsleves, and to be disciplined in a structured environment, so they can get a chance to spend a day like this," Brumfield said.
The sheriff's office said in order for inmates to be a part of this event they have to complete a number of parenting classes.
