HAMMOND - A trustee who escaped from custody in Tangipahoa Parish is back in jail.
John Johnson, 36, was working at the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office vehicle maintenance shop in Amite at 10:00 p.m. last night. As a deputy was locking up the shop, Johnson disappeared. A search of the area was unsuccessful.
The sheriff's office says detectives learned this morning that Johnson was picked up and driven to the Tangipahoa River at Morris Road, where he was dropped off with a canoe and supplies.
He was captured just before noon today.
Johnson was serving a 10 year sentence for his 6th DWI. He's now charged with Simple Escape. Terri Sowash, Patrick Snedden, Stephen Johnson and Judy Johnson were arrested as well this morning, charged with Principle to Simple Escape.
