President's Afghanistan policy takes shape
A senior Obama Administration official says the President is considering focusing more on al-Qaida and not the Taliban in Afghanistan. The official close to policy talks would not be identified because he is not authorized to disclose the information. Downgrading the emphasis on the Taliban would also pave the way for the militants to have a say in the government and running Afghanistan. The President still hasn't decided how many, if any, addional troops he'll send to the war zone. The commanding general in Afghanistan, Stanley McCrystal, requested as many as 40,000 additional troops.
