GEISMAR- A team of independent, federally backed inspectors will arrive at the scene of the first area plant explosion this weekend.

The U.S. Chemical Safety Board (CSB) deployed a team to Ascension Parish, the agency said in a news release late Friday.  The team is expected to arrive at the William Olefins plant this weekend.

The group investigates all aspects of chemical accidents, "including physical causes such as equipment failure as well as inadequacies in regulations, industry standards and safety management systems" the group said in a statement.

The president appoints members of the safety board.

Two people died in an explosion and fire at the plant Thursday morning, separate from another deadly incident at a second Ascension Parish plant Friday evening.
