Pres. Obama slams Az. immigration bill
The Obama administration is examining whether a tough immigration bill in Arizona would violate civil rights. President Obama called the proposal "misguided".
The proposal would require police to question people about their immigration status if there is reason to suspect they are in the country illegally. Civil rights activists say such a law would lead to racial profiling and keep Hispanics from reporting crimes.
The bill has not been signed into law yet. Arizona Governor Jan Brewer, a Republican, has until Saturday to act on it. She can sign, veto or allow it to become law without her signature.
