BATON ROUGE- Powerhouse Gym is now ready to begin construction after the Department of Public Works (DPW) issued a building permit for the project.
The gym came under fire from customers earlier this year, when it wasn't opened in time.
Now DPW is inspecting the building to ensure the build stays on a safe track.
"We wanted to make sure that they know clearly what the requirements are, from our standpoint, so that they don't get further down the line and then realize there was something they needed to do earlier on," said Carey Chauvin, Building Official for DPW.
Chauvin says some work done before the permit was issued will have to removed, in particular, an elevated track that inspectors say just won't work.
"It's not structurally sufficient for the loads that are going to placed up there so certainly the stop work order was without a doubt a good thing in many, many ways," said Chauvin.
Powerhouse Gym owners tell News 2 the construction should begin this week, but there's no timetable for when the gym will open.
