BATON ROUGE - Severe weather knocked out power to more than 35,000 people as it blew down trees and power lines across the News 2 viewing area.
At its peak, DEMCO reported more than 20,000 customers were without power across seven parishes, the most being around 10,000 in Livingston Parish.
Parish President Mike Grimmer said many trees had gone down in the southern part of the parish and near I-12, and that emergency crews had to cut one driver out of their car when they were trapped inside by live power lines.
Entergy reported more than 15,000 people in East Baton Rouge Parish were without power at the height of the outage. Wind reportedly knocked out a transformer near Jefferson Drive and Corporate Blvd., putting several neighborhoods in the dark.
There was no estimation on how long it would take to fully restore power to the viewing area.
