Potential move for Pineville medical center
BATON ROUGE - The LSU Board of Supervisors will consider Friday a proposal to close the Huey P. Long Medical Center in Pineville.
The measure, if approved, would relocate the facility to a renovated former military hospital at the England Airpark in nearby Alexandria.
Governor Bobby Jindal says the $30 million plan has two major components: an expanded primary, preventive and specialty outpatient clinic and a new modern and more efficient in-patient hospital.
According to an LSU news release, the university's health care system would rent the reconditioned facilities from the England Economic and Industrial Development District that would, in turn, issue bonds to cover construction costs.
The 72-year-old medical center houses 60 acute care beds and services an average of 44 patients daily.
