The U.S. Postal Service wants to do away with Saturday mail delivery and raise postage rates, in an attempt to save money.
Any change must be approved by Congress, who just months ago seemed against the idea.
Postal officials say the number of shipped items is down thanks to the recession and electronic communication like email and online bill paying.
Postmaster General John Potter will address the future of his agency later this afternoon.
