BATON ROUGE - Southern University is considering a reorganization plan that would lead to nearly 90 layoffs.
The proposal also outlines consolidations of the academic colleges and changes to the administrative structure.
As of now, the university does not plan to eliminate any academic programs.
The proposed changes come as a result of the university's declaration of a financial emergency back in October.
Chancellor James Llorens says the plan would eliminate about 35 faculty members, with remaining staff cuts coming from areas such as human resources, information technology and maintenance, among others.
The decision is pending approval from the Board of Supervisors Friday.
