ARCOLA – Authorities in Tangipahoa Parish seized around thousands of dollars in possible drug money after a sheriff’s deputy noticed an erratically-driving SUV on the interstate.
The deputy stopped the vehicle after seeing it drive off onto the shoulder of I-55 southbound several times. The deputy noticed the driver, 28-year-old Ricardo Biaz Jr. of Texas, was wearing a heavy coat despite the day’s 80-degree temperatures and was keeping his hands in his pockets.
The deputy patted Biaz down and found he had around $20,000 in cash concealed on his person. A K9 unit was called in and indicated the money had been near illegal narcotics before.
Investigators said Biaz admitted that the money had come from selling narcotics, but he didn’t know who had made the purchase.
The money was seized by the sheriff’s office, and Biaz was cited and released.
