PORT HUDSON, La. - A demonstration of Civil War weaponry is planned Sunday at the Port Hudson State Historic Site.

The Advocate reports the program will be held from 1-3 p.m.

Port Hudson was the scene of an 1863 siege associated with Union Gen. Ulysses Grant's push to Vicksburg, Miss. The Confederate garrison held out until Vicksburg fell in July 1863, then surrendered.

The site is on U.S. Highway 61, northwest of Zachary.

Staff members will demonstrate Civil War-era reproduction weapons such as cannons, muskets, rifles, carbines and pistols.
