PORT ALLEN- A woman is dead after being hit by a car in Port Allen.

It happened around 2:00am Saturday morning on US 190 west of LA 1145.

According to investigators, 39-year-old Elodia Smith walked directly into the path of a 1999 Mercury Cougar west on US 190.

Police say the driver of the car, 36-year-old James Craven, was not injured in the crash.

Smith was pronounced dead at the scene by the West Baton Rouge Coroner.

Toxicology samples have been sent for analysis.

This crash is still under investigation.
