BRUSLY - The Port Allen Pelicans survived a tight rivalry game with Brusly, taking down the Panthers 25-22 in another great edition of the Sugar Cane Classic.

The Pels fired first right out of the gate with a 60 yard touchdown run by James Jones on the first play from scrimmage to take a 6-0 lead.

The Panthers responded with a 7-yard Josh Allen touchdown run and made their extra point to take a 7-6 lead.

The two teams battled back-and-forth as Devin Hammond scored on a quarterback keeper for the Pelicans to put Port Allen back on top 12-7.

The game was still in doubt late in the fourth quarter, but the Pels pulled away with a win to move to 3-0 in district 7-3A.

The Panthers fall to 0-3 in the district.
