Port Allen couple arrested on child abuse charges
PORT ALLEN - A mother and her boyfriend are behind bars Friday after their arrest yesterday in Port Allen based on accusations that they beat their 6-year-old boy on six different occasions.
The child's mother, 29-year-old Nina Harper, and her live-in boyfriend, 28-year-old Matthew Barrow, were taken into custody on Jan. 22 following an investigation by authorities into the series of intentional beatings. According to law enforcement, Harper's son suffered severe marks, scratches and bruises as a result of the abuse, which was carried out using various implements including fists, a belt and a cooking spoon.
Harper and Barrow were booked into West Baton Rouge Parish Prison on charges of second degree cruelty to juveniles.
